Speech Therapy

Communication is a fundamental part of learning at Yad Yisroel. We work with our students to interact and communicate in school, at home, and in the community.

Dedicated speech therapists work with our verbal and nonverbal students to develop their social communication, fluency, and expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language skills. Our speech and language therapists are trained in alternative and augmentative communication methods. They are trained in PROMPT therapy, and Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking curriculum.

Occupational Therapy

Daily tasks can be difficult for students to perform. Occupational therapists work to address challenges as they arise throughout the day, and one-on-one in personal sessions to improve students’ fine and motor skills, hand-to-eye coordination, self-care, handwriting, self regulation skills, and daily tasks. Our occupational therapists are trained to use NeuroNet, Reflex Integration, Therapeutic Listening, Astronaut Protocol, Handwriting without Tears, and incorporate all these methods into students daily schedules and programs. Students are taught the skills they need and given the sensory input they require  to navigate through the day successfully.

Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists guide students to strengthen their physical function and skills, working with them to improve mobility, coordination, gait, and range of motion.

Physical therapy helps students who are ambulatory or have limited mobility attain a higher level of independence, and enables students who experience difficulties with physical function to conquer them.

Animal Therapy

Navigating a world that is difficult to understand can fill a child with anxiety and stress. Animal therapy is a space where children can explore and deal with these fears.

Children form meaningful bonds with gentle animals, which helps them relax and gain confidence and trust. It gives children a sense of healing, security and unconditional love.  Our certified therapists use animal assisted therapy to improve students’ coordination, communication and language skills, and to encourage them to interact with their environment.

Animal therapy improves social, cognitive, behavioral, physical, and emotional skills and functioning.

Aquatic Therapy

Water buoyancy allows children to explore therapeutic exercises without placing stress on their bodies. For students with limited mobility, aquatic therapy is especially helpful—and fun!

Aquatic therapy improves endurance, muscle tone, circulation, flexibility, and core strength. It extends range of motion and allows children to have greater physical control and freedom.

Music Therapy

Sometimes children need a place where they can grow beyond a traditional therapy setting. Music therapy is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of each student. Music works with both parts of the brain simultaneously in a soothing, non threatening environment.  Music therapy also provides avenues for communication that can be helpful to students who find it difficult to express themselves in words.

Our music therapists assess the needs of each student and provide treatment including creating, singing, moving to, and listening to music. Through musical involvement in the therapeutic context, students’ abilities are strengthened and transferred to other areas of their lives.

Montessori Classrooms

Step into our bright Montessori classrooms designed for independent learning. Children interact with montessori  materials to discover and develop new skills on their own. Teachers are trained to guide students to learn and explore independently. Students interact with a carefully prepared environment  designed to   develop order, concentration, control and independence.

Teachers thoughtfully set up materials and stimuli that allow children to engage their cognitive and sensory abilities by independently interacting with a conducive environment and teachers.

Students often grapple with emotional or psychological difficulties. Our counselors give them a safe place to work through challenges with play therapy, psychotherapy, and CBT.

Counselors work in conjunction with teachers and therapists to advise and ensure a cohesive environment for students.
